Stand With Ukraine Wall Hanging

My small way to help and support the people of Ukraine. I’ve made this little wall hanging to hang in my home window. If you would like to make one I’ve shared the pattern here for free. If you would like to show a little more support I’m taking £1 donations for this pattern through my PayPal sharnamoore123@gmail where I will be giving 100 % proceeds to The British Red Cross UKRAINE CRISIS APPEAL.

Materials:

I’ve used one ball of Stylecraft special chunky in gold and cloud blue.

6mm crochet hook.

(Any yarn with right size hook will work - Wall hanging sizes may differ)

Yarn needle

Wooden stick

Notes:

This pattern is worked from the bottom up. The turning chain 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch. I used a stick I found on a forest walk to hang my piece on. pattern worked in US terms.

Make sure all the loop and bobble stitches are on the same side of your work.

Stitches used:

chain stitch - ch

single crochet - sc (UK double crochet - dc)

loop stitch - LS

bobble stitch - bobble

Special stitches:

Bobble Stitch - yarn over and insert the hook into the next stitch. Yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through two stitches. this process will be repeated 4 times and you will end up with 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all of the loops on your hook.

Loop Stitch - insert hook into your stitch, wrap yarn around your index finger and keep finger at the desired length for the loop. Wrap hook clockwise around the yarn (yarn under) laying in front of the index finger and then grab the yarn laying behind the index finger. Pull yarn through stitch (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through remaining loops. Remove finger from loop.

To create the fringe, cut 12 inch pieces of yarn. Your need 2 strands of yarn to complete 1 fringe. I made 9 fringe pieces.

To attach the fringe, grab 2 strands of yarn. Use your crochet hook to push through the far left foundation chain. Fold your 2 strands in half and loop the middle of the strands onto your hook and pull the loop of the strands through the chain. Fold the ends of the strands through the loop and tighten. Repeat for each fringe piece.

Hanging:

To attach your project to a wooden stick, using a yarn needle weave the tail over the stick and back under into 1st st on top of the hanging. Repeat for each st. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cut a length of yarn tie around both ends of your stick to hang.

left over yarn from your wool and the gang kit? why not turn it into a stunning wall hanging

What do you do with your left over yarns? I had some gorgeous left over crazy sexy wool from a jumper kit I received from the awesome Wool and the Gang. The jumper I made is called the heart of mine jumper. The kit comes with everything you need to make it the right amount of yarn in any colour of your choice the pattern and crochet hook. The pattern is very easy to follow and you can make it in no time at all I chose the colour Cameo rose, such a pretty colour, crazy sexy wool is so squishy and soft to touch, imagine how lovely this jumper is to wear.

I was very happy with my new jumper, and even more happy because I nearly had a whole skin of crazy sexy wool left over.  I wanted to make something visual and special with this last piece of yarn also this Cameo rose colour is so pretty and calming I could stare at it all day long that's why I decided to make a cute chunky wall hanging.

How to make a wall hanging

Materials

150g of crazy sexy wool

15mm crochet hook

yarn needle

any stick you can hang your square on.

The square is called a square inside a square, the pattern is not my pattern, I found it on Pinterest from hooksandyarns.blogspot.com. I made my square in just one colour. You can use any pattern really, I just love the look and texture you get when using this pattern. When you have finished your square sew in all the ends. Now to attach some tassels, I put one tassel through every stitch at the bottom of my square.

How to make your tassels

With one piece of yarn 24cm long, fold it in half with the loop at the end, then push it through your first stitch, then gently pull the yarn threads through your stitch and loop and tighten, repeat till the very last stitch. Don't worry if some of your tassels are longer then the others, you can give them a little trim once you've finished.

Attaching your stick

Using your yarn needle, sew the stick onto the square, attach another piece of yarn to each end of your stick which you will use to hang your wall hanging.

I hope you have enjoyed this wall hanging idea, please do tag me on Instagram @sweet_Sharna if your have an account and make one.
