Magic Star Pattern

I adore this simple Crochet Star Pattern, it can be made into so many beautiful things. A coaster, tree decoration or garland, present topper etc. I love how each star ends up with its own unique shape. These dark autumn days are making me want to hang sparkly stars in every room of the house. Stars aren’t just for Christmas they shine in the sky every eve.

I had leftover cotton from another project, so wanted to use up what I had in my yarn stash. These stars can be made in any colour.

Materials:

I’ve used yarn from my stash, a DK cotton in cream and doubled up with some sparkly thread. You can use any yarn and right size hook.

4mm hook

Yarn needle

Stitches used:

Dc (double crochet) or UK (treble)

Ch (chain)

Sl st (slip stitch)

Hdc (half double crochet) or UK (half double treble)

Sp (space)

Notes:

Ch3 at beginning of each round counts as a dc.

The only chain stitches are used in corner spaces. There are no chains between 3dc and 2dc along sides.

Round 1: ch4, 2 dc into the first ch, ch2, 3dc, ch2, 3dc , ch2, 3dc (all in the same st). (4 dc, 4 ch 1 sp). Sl st along into corner sp.

Round 2: ch3, 2 dc into the same sp, ch2, 3dc into same sp. (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in each ch2 sp around. ( 8 3dc, 4 ch1 sp) sl st along to corner sp.

Round 3: ch3, 1dc into same sp, ch2, 2dc into same sp. (2dc, ch2, 2dc) between each 3dc sp around. sl st along to corner sp.

Round 4: ch3, 1dc in same sp, ch2, 2dc in same sp, *(2hdc) in next space, (2dc, ch2, 2dc)* in next ch2 sp, repeat from *to* around. Fasten off.

Now you can keep your Star as a coaster to rest your mug of warm coffee or tea. Or turn it into a hanging star or pretty garland.

Hanging Star assembly instructions:

For the tassel cut 6 long strands of yarn, fold them in half and thread open ends through a the bottom middle ch2 space of your star pull ends through the loop you have created and tighten to secure.

Using a yarn needle thread some yarn through the top middle ch2 space of your star, attach some bells or beads onto your thread knot to secure. You can attach your star onto a key chain or small stick from your garden. Or simply have it hanging by some loose thread.

The stars would also look awesome threaded onto a length of twine and hung as a garland.

left over yarn from your wool and the gang kit? why not turn it into a stunning wall hanging

What do you do with your left over yarns? I had some gorgeous left over crazy sexy wool from a jumper kit I received from the awesome Wool and the Gang. The jumper I made is called the heart of mine jumper. The kit comes with everything you need to make it the right amount of yarn in any colour of your choice the pattern and crochet hook. The pattern is very easy to follow and you can make it in no time at all I chose the colour Cameo rose, such a pretty colour, crazy sexy wool is so squishy and soft to touch, imagine how lovely this jumper is to wear.

I was very happy with my new jumper, and even more happy because I nearly had a whole skin of crazy sexy wool left over.  I wanted to make something visual and special with this last piece of yarn also this Cameo rose colour is so pretty and calming I could stare at it all day long that's why I decided to make a cute chunky wall hanging.

How to make a wall hanging

Materials

150g of crazy sexy wool

15mm crochet hook

yarn needle

any stick you can hang your square on.

The square is called a square inside a square, the pattern is not my pattern, I found it on Pinterest from hooksandyarns.blogspot.com. I made my square in just one colour. You can use any pattern really, I just love the look and texture you get when using this pattern. When you have finished your square sew in all the ends. Now to attach some tassels, I put one tassel through every stitch at the bottom of my square.

How to make your tassels

With one piece of yarn 24cm long, fold it in half with the loop at the end, then push it through your first stitch, then gently pull the yarn threads through your stitch and loop and tighten, repeat till the very last stitch. Don't worry if some of your tassels are longer then the others, you can give them a little trim once you've finished.

Attaching your stick

Using your yarn needle, sew the stick onto the square, attach another piece of yarn to each end of your stick which you will use to hang your wall hanging.

I hope you have enjoyed this wall hanging idea, please do tag me on Instagram @sweet_Sharna if your have an account and make one.
